C-Probe: Announcing New Accreditation Scheme from LRQA
Structural degradation, especially from steel corrosion accelerated by environmental factors, costs the global economy annually an amount equivalent to 3.4% of GDP.
In collaboration with C-Probe, LRQA Limited has launched the Structural Integrity & Resilience Accreditation Scheme (SIRAS/SIRAS+), a comprehensive assessment and certification framework. This scheme ensures that structures, infrastructure, and assets meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and sustainability, particularly in the face of extreme events and climate change.
SIRAS/SIRAS+ supports proactive corrosion management, aligning with the Construction Playbook’s goals for decarbonisation and sustainability. The scheme targets stakeholders including building owners, infrastructure operators, asset managers, regulatory bodies, consulting engineers, and insurers.
SIRAS+ builds on the foundation of SIRAS by adding sustainability criteria, such as incentivising low-carbon materials and data-driven approaches for structural health monitoring. A tiered award structure—Gold, Silver, and Bronze—assesses system performance and maintenance practices against international standards (ISO 15257:2017 and ISO 12696:2022).
In 2025, LRQA, with support from C-Probe, will engage industry partners to encourage adoption of the scheme.
